Talking Heads - February 19

Talking Heads: Talking Heads is an exhibition of contemporary artworks that explore the people and faces that populate the mediascape.

Taking its title from the filmic convention common to docu-journalism and webcam exhibitionism, Talking Heads is an exhibition of contemporary artworks that explore the people and faces that populate the mediascape. The eye-witness testimonial, the confessional, the report, the expert discussion; each of these techniques lends authority and credence to the speaking subject. And yet, film is not simply an objective witness to an interviewee, but a creative framework open to directorial manipulation and interpretive control. In this way, the artists brought together in Talking Heads explore the multiple positions of the subject under the gaze of the camera.

Talking Heads features works by Omer Fast and Oraib Toukan previously unseen in Dublin, a special 16mm screening of Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests as well as recent works by Stephen Sutcliffe, Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard. Curated by Claire Feeley.

Échantillons: Encastrable - December 11

Encastrable: Echantillion - A Month of French Contemporary Art at the Irish Museum of Contemporary Art

To launch an attack on the cornucopias food, gardening and DIY chain stores are. There, to carry out short-lived actions performed with very little means and clandestinely introduce a workshop and an exhibition space so as to turn the distribution network into an artist residency structure. This is the simple and common idea that brought together Antoine Jolivet and Paul Souviron.

Opening Friday 11th of December - 6pm. Full Program Here »

Échantillons: A Selection of French Contemporary Art - October 15

Echantillion - A Month of French Contemporary Art at the Irish Museum of Contemporary Art

The premier of this event provides a sampling of the artists and contemporary art practices in France today. The timing of such a show in Ireland is auspicious as it encourages and invites reflection on what is gained from our ever-increasing global interaction and interdependence.

The exhibitions, installations and performances are all uniquely reflective of the curators, artists and teams responsible for creating them; however, at the same time their involvement and participation in an event such as this also clearly illustrates that the shared drive and passion of emerging arts practitioners transcends cultures and borders.

Opening Thursday 15th of October - 6pm. Full Program Here »

ReFunct 09: !Alerting Infrastructure! a project by Jonah Brucker-Cohen ReFunct 09: !Alerting Infrastructure! a project by Jonah Brucker-Cohen

Alerting Infrastructure! is a physical hit counter that translates hits to the web site of an organization into interior damage of the physical building that web site or organization represents. The focus of the piece is to amplify the concern that physical spaces are slowly losing ground to their virtual counterparts. The amount of structural damage to the building directly correlates to the amount of exposure and attention the web site gets, thus exposing the physical structure's temporal existence.

Your visit has contributed to 0.9768% of the destruction of the Irish Museum of Contemporary Art! Thanks for visiting!

Exhibition: Mission Creep

mission creep general view

Invited by the Gallery Roger Tator, Benjamin Gaulon artist/curator present Mission Creep (in collaboration with the Imoca). 15th to 30th of November 2008, Design Biennale,, Saint-Etienne, France.

Mission creep is the expansion of a project or mission beyond its original goals, often after initial successes.[1] The term often implies a certain disapproval of newly adopted goals by the user of the term. Mission creep is usually considered undesirable due to the dangerous path of each success breeding more ambitious attempts, only stopping when a final, often catastrophic, failure occurs. The term was originally applied exclusively to military operations, but has recently been applied to many different fields, mainly the growth of bureaucracies.
